G tube leaking?

Papa Aquila

New member
Hi,
new member here. Hope I can find some support with you all!
My son just got a g tube and I have a lot of questions/concerns. I am glad to see this forum pop up for this reason.
We are having some leakage around the G tube and want to make sure this is normal and ok?

thanks

Hi Aquila,
Welcome to the group. I am hopeful other members come in and provide their personal experiences. G tubes can leak and this is ok if minimal. Most of the time it is best to let leakage dry out as some patients are prone to get yeast infections. For this reason, concentrating secretions may be a bad idea (using gauze).

but some patients do better with a gauze cover!

When it is a problem causing irritation, then a barrier cream can help a great deal. Apply once to twice a day.

hope this helps!
