We commonly hear from parents who are overly worried about this diagnosis!
Mesenteric lymphadenitis is when the lymph nodes in the belly (specifically the mesentery) become inflamed—often due to a viral or bacterial infection. These lymph nodes act like your child’s internal defense team, filtering out harmful stuff like germs.
it mostly affects kids and teens, not adults. And it often gets better on its own within a few weeks but can last up to 3 months!
It can present with severe abdominal pain that can mimic appendicitis.
Most kids recover without medications—just rest and symptom relief. NSAIDS can help but must be taken on full stomach.
